The Cable Modem is the device that connects and converts the Internet service to a format that can be used by computer networks.
We purchased the cable modem from SHAW.
The input to the device is the coaxial cable from SHAW service, and the output is an Ethernet network cable that connects to the Router.
The Shaw Cable Modem is also a router, and since we use out own router the Shaw router function has been be put into Bridge Mode to prevent conflicts with our router. Only Shaw Tech Support can do this (604-629-3000 X 1, 1, 2) The current modem has been set to bridge mode, but if it is every upgraded, the new one will have to be set to bridge mode.
This is to access the administration web page from within the home network when it is in Bridge Mode requires that the device be connected directly to the model using an Ethernet cable.

If the Internet connection gets grumpy, then try re-starting the Cable Modem.
Unplug it and wait at least 30 seconds before plugging it back in to allow it to flush its data.
After restarting the Cable Modem, and waiting for the Online light to stabilize, restart the Wireless Router.
