On a Chrome OS computer (Chromebook or Chromebox) the VPN has to be set up manually.
Here is the procedure for adding a VPN hosted by Private Internet Access to a Chromebook:
Open LasPass and open: Private Internet Access - VPN Locations
Write down the following information.
You will not be able to come back to copy it electronically when the popup window appears
(Bad Design Google!)
VPN Username of our account with Private Internet Access to access VPN services (prefixed with an "x")
VPN Password for connecting to a VPN location
Internet Address for the location you want to connect to
For Example: us-seattle.privateinternetaccess.com
Open the Chromebook Settings (Cog symbol):
Under the Network section:
Click Add Connection
Click Add OpenVPN / L2TP
Fill out the popup window that appears with the information listed below:
Server Hostname: to the Internet Address you selected
Service Name: A user-friendly name for selecting off a list later:
For Example: PIA US Seattle
Provider Type: L2TP/IPSec + pre-shared key
Pre-shared Key: mysafety
Server CA Certificate: Default
User Certificate: None Installed
Username: The Username you copied earlier
Password: The Password you copied earlier
OTP: blank
Group Name: blank
Check Save Identity and Password
(If you don't you will be asked for this each time you connect)
Click Connect.
If you cannot connect, and you have checked all the information, the password may have changed and LastPass not updated.
In this case you will have to login to the PIA account and Get the VPN Password
